Situational Awareness and Common Operating Picture (COP)
Course Discription:
Situational Awareness (SA) and Common Operating Picture (COP) supports the Communications and Information Management component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). FEMA Region X and Oregon Emergency Management are co-hosting this SA & COP course, which is designed to improve the skills, knowledge, and capabilities of individuals and organizations involved in domestic emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define Situational Awareness and Common Operating Picture (SA & COP) and the relationship between the two.
- Explain how SA & COP contributes to effective incident management and decision making.
- Develop or contribute to plans, procedures, or processes supporting SA & COP in their own operating environment.
- Understand the impact of current and emerging technologies on SA & COP
Selection Criteria:
This course is for emergency management, emergency medical services, fire, law enforcement, government administrative, hazardous materials, health care, public health, public safety communications, public works personnel or any emergency management/ response personnel that would be dealing with SA & COP during an incident.
Prerequisites:
Required: ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
Recommended: ICS 300, 400
